Helping anchor a growing waterfront community

Overview

Local Public Eatery River District was one of the first restaurant tenants to open in what is quickly becoming one of Vancouver’s most vibrant waterfront neighbourhoods.

Our involvement in River District began years before the doors opened. Working alongside Wesgroup, the master planner behind the community, Team Pacific supported the commercial development of the area for more than five years - helping prepare retail spaces, coordinate base building readiness, and bring early anchor tenants to life.

Local Public Eatery became a key part of that milestone moment for the neighbourhood.

The Opportunity

Communities like River District don’t take shape overnight.

Before tenant improvements began, our team supported a wide range of early-stage work across the commercial program, including:

  • helping identify and support anchor tenant strategies

  • facilitating lease coordination

  • bringing base building conditions into alignment for occupancy

  • preparing retail units for incoming restaurant operators

The goal was to ensure the first wave of openings felt intentional, complete, and ready to serve a growing residential population from day one.

Our Approach

In addition to supporting the broader commercial rollout, Pacific delivered the tenant improvement for Local Public Eatery from pre-construction through completion.

Working closely with the client and consultant team, the focus was on creating a warm, flexible restaurant environment that could quickly establish itself as a neighbourhood gathering place while aligning with Local Public Eatery’s established brand experience.

This project formed part of a coordinated opening group that also included Bufala and Lucky Taco — helping establish a strong restaurant presence at a critical stage in the community’s growth.

The Outcome

Today, Local Public Eatery operates as one of the early anchors of River District’s evolving retail core.

For our team, the project represents more than a single restaurant build. It reflects a multi-year partnership supporting the commercial foundation of a new Vancouver neighbourhood — and the role thoughtful coordination plays in helping communities take shape over time.
