Coordinating a complex international retail rollout under mall construction constraints
Overview
Located at Metropolis at Metrotown, the Pop Mart store introduced one of the brand’s signature high-density retail environments to Metro Vancouver.
The project involved coordinating internationally fabricated millwork packages, complex display systems, and a client-supplied lighting package — all within the logistical constraints of working inside an active shopping centre with restricted construction hours.
The Opportunity
Pop Mart’s design relied heavily on custom display elements manufactured overseas and delivered to site in multiple oversized shipments. The team coordinated delivery, staging, and installation of twelve large millwork crates arriving from Asia while maintaining progress within the mall’s strict scheduling limitations.
At the same time, several lighting components supplied with the design package did not meet Canadian Standards Association (CSA) requirements, creating a potential inspection risk late in the schedule.
Our Approach
To keep the project moving toward opening, Pacific worked closely with consultants and suppliers to:
coordinate staging and installation of imported millwork systems
manage deliveries within mall access restrictions
shift noisy construction activities to overnight and early-morning windows
identify alternate compliant lighting specifications that satisfied CSA requirements
This coordination ensured that both installation sequencing and inspection readiness stayed aligned with the store’s accelerated opening timeline.
The Outcome
Despite logistical complexity and regulatory adjustments mid-project, the Pop Mart store was delivered successfully as a high-impact retail environment consistent with the brand’s international standards.
The project highlights Pacific’s ability to support globally developed retail concepts locally — translating complex imported systems into buildable, compliant, and operational spaces within tight mall construction constraints.
