STEAMWORKS NORTH SHORE

A neighbourhood taphouse built for the North Shore‍ ‍

Overview

Steamworks North Shore is the newest addition to the Steamworks family - designed as a welcoming hub for the surrounding community and a natural extension of a long-standing Vancouver brand. Working with a returning client, our team transformed a shell space into a full-service taphouse and restaurant anchored by a central bar, open kitchen, and one of the most visible patios in the area. From early coordination through to opening, the focus was simple: deliver a space that felt immediately familiar to locals while supporting the next chapter of the Steamworks story.

The Opportunity

The goal was to create more than just another location. Steamworks envisioned a gathering place that reflected the character of the North Shore - social, accessible, and connected to its natural surroundings - while maintaining the energy and identity the brand is known for.

The project required:

  • converting a base shell into a complete hospitality environment

  • coordinating a large consultant and trade team

  • navigating early base building deficiencies

  • maintaining schedule momentum without compromising the vision From the outset, success depended on alignment across the full project team and a shared understanding of what the space needed to become.

Our Approach

This was a highly collaborative build shaped by strong client direction and clear decision-making throughout the process. Inside, the layout is organized around a central bar featuring Steamworks’ signature brews alongside rotating guest taps that highlight the local craft beer scene. A flexible dining room and open kitchen support a menu that moves easily between casual visits, group gatherings, and weekend brunch service. Outside, the park-facing patio quickly became a defining feature of the project - extending the energy of the space into the neighbourhood and creating a natural place for people to gather. (Oh and did we mention, it’s dog friendly?!) While early base building conditions introduced complexity, consistent communication and a strong working relationship with the client allowed the team to keep the project moving forward without losing momentum.

The Outcome

Steamworks North Shore opened as a true neighbourhood taphouse - welcoming, energetic, and built to support everyday use as much as special occasions. What stands out most about this project is how closely the finished space reflects the client’s intent. Very few compromises were required along the way, which speaks to the strength of the collaboration and the clarity of the vision from the beginning. It’s a space designed to serve both locals and visitors alike - and one we’re proud to have been a part of.
