The Pacific + Tacofino relationship began in 2011 with the Gastown Taco Bar. Since then, we’ve partnered on nine projects together, growing from restaurants to fast-casual concepts to large-scale builds. More than a client, Tacofino is part of the Made by Pacific family - a valued collaborator and long-time friend.
Our latest chapter together included working alongside the Tacofino team and acclaimed designer Shiloh Sukkau to build three new restaurants across the lower mainland. Squamish, White Rock, and Metrotown were each designed to reflect its community while staying true to Tacofino’s laid-back West Coast hospitality.
Three Locations, Three Unique Stories
Metrotown – A Bold Urban Expansion
Tacofino Metrotown represented a high-profile expansion into one of BC’s busiest shopping centres. The space reflects a Californian/Baja-inspired mid-century aesthetic - vibrant, textured, and perfectly aligned with Tacofino’s playful brand.
Squamish – A Mountain Town Gathering Place
Tacofino Squamish was designed as a community hub for the Sea-to-Sky corridor, blending the brand’s Baja roots with the adventurous, outdoorsy vibe of Squamish. Natural textures, warm tones, and playful details make it a welcoming space for locals and visitors alike.
White Rock – A Coastal-Inspired Restaurant
Overlooking one of BC’s most iconic seaside communities, Tacofino White Rock embraces a light, coastal design that mirrors the sand and surf. Airy finishes and natural materials create a relaxed dining experience that feels right at home by the ocean.
Pacific’s Role – Hospitality Construction & Tenant Improvements
Across all three projects, Pacific acted as the complete construction partner, working through all of the pre-construction stages to ensure project viability, budget control, and value engineering with such a complex expansion plan. Ultimately, we were able to deliver streamlined tenant improvement projects that piggy-backed on the comprehensive pre-planning work during pre-construction, all balancing design vision, budget, and long-term functionality.
Our work included:
Pre-construction planning and value engineering to maximize impact while controlling costs.
Coordination with municipalities and mall management (particularly in Burnaby’s Metrotown) to streamline permitting and inspections.
Custom millwork by The Shop at Pacific, adding warmth, durability, and brand consistency across locations.
Tight trade coordination to meet aggressive timelines without compromising quality.
Built for Community, Built for Longevity
While each restaurant has its own design identity, the throughline is clear: materiality, durability, and functionality to support high-volume service in distinct environments. From mountain town to seaside to urban core, Pacific ensured Tacofino’s signature guest experience could thrive.
The Result – Expanding the Tacofino Legacy
Together, the Squamish, White Rock, and Metrotown restaurants expand Tacofino’s footprint while reinforcing its role as one of BC’s most beloved hospitality brands. Each location reflects its community while staying true to Tacofino’s spirit - bold, approachable, and distinctly West Coast.
“We try to do some different things and Pacific is always super keen, and that’s the big difference. You can work with someone and they can be resistant. When I work with Pacific, they’re always enthusiastic about trying something and making it work. You know they are going to do an amazing job.”
— Shiloh Sukkau, Architect & Designer
